The first Study Groups inside the DKG were created in the early 1990s. The Study Groups mostly focus on but one or a few genera of killifish or even only on a species group.

Their functionality is partly slightly differing and besides others they defined the following goals:

  • Exchange of specific information concerning maintenance and breeding.
  • Purposeful exchange of offspring inside the Study Group in the sense of conservation reproduction for the preservation of the diversity of species and populations in the hobby.
  • Information and reports concerning collecting trips.
  • Mutual literary, but also scientific work with and about the fish.

Besides DKG members, also members of foreign killifish associations actively particpate in the DKG Study Groups, presenting an obvious enrichment. In this aspect, the DKG in its role as the second largest killie association of the world also offers a good and useful platform for international collaboration.

Usually, the Study Groups meet once a year during the
DKG Conventions.

In addition to those meetings, since 2005 some Study Group forums were created, these form above all a good occasion for communication, discussion, and exchange of experience among the members in the periods between the annual DKG Convention. In parts, this procedure is a form of work on mutual projects.

In exceptional cases, even non-DKG members are accepted in the Study Groups.

In case of interest in contribution to the Study Groups, please contact the corresponding Study Group Chairman.

However, new Study Group members are expected to be interested in more than only purchasing rare killifish species!
